Bureau of Nutrition Services
Improve health and well-being through nutrition education, promotion of physical activity, and engaging with partners to develop policies and environmental changes which reduce hunger, increase breastfeeding, and decrease obesity and its associated chronic diseases throughout Guam.
The mission of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, also known as the WIC Program, is to safeguard the health of low-income women, infants, and children up to the age of five who are at nutritional risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement their diets, information on healthy eating, and referrals to health care (USDA Food and Nutrition Services, 2022).
The WIC Program is based on the premise that many low-income individuals are at risk of poor nutritional status and adverse health outcomes due to inadequate nutrition during critical periods of growth and development, including pregnancy, infancy, and early childhood (Institute of Medicine, 1996).
